What does Board Certified mean?

Board Certification means in addition to a medical degree, a surgeon has received several more years of training and instruction in their focused specialty. He passed an examination and peer review process at the end of this training to earn their board's certification. There are 24 boards in the United States that certify for board specialty. Not all physicians have achieved board certification.

What is FACS?

ACS is the American College of Surgeons.

Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, often listed as "FACS” is  a post nominal title used to indicate that the surgeon's education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by said College. In order to apply for membership, a surgeon typically must be certified by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties.”

What does this mean for me as a patient?

Board Certification means that our surgeon has spent additional time gaining more experience and expertise to better treat their patient and tend to their patient’s needs. Maintaining his focus on continual improvement is what makes our team one of the best in the southeast region.
